I watched The Devil Wears Prada for the first time the other day.
My favorite quote from the movie:
“I’m on this new diet. Well actually, I don’t eat anything at all; then when I feel
like I’m about to faint I eat a cube of cheese. I’m just one good stomach flu away
from my goal weight.”
That’s my favorite quote too. But I thought it went like this: ‘I’m on this new diet. I eat…, well actually I don’t eat anything….
Also I could never decide what the movie was trying to say.
#1 Fashion is OK if that’s the only life you want to have
#2 Who cares what you wear, just live
#3 Fashion is just one thing out of many things that people can and do pursue to the extreme.
Perhaps it depends on what you want out of life. A la Henry Higgins: Some don’t care what they do as long as they look good doing it.
I agree! I thought the “message” (if there was one) was a little confusing. In one part of the movie fashion is built up to be the highest art form and then in other parts, fashion is depicted as a force that corrupts souls!
Also, it bothers me a little that the heroine of the movie runs off to Paris and sleeps with slimy guy, yet we’re supposed to still think she’s a sweet, charming, innocent darling.
I did like the movie:) And I love the Higgins’ quote! Oh, and I probably did get the quote wrong!
